Building Works

The DfE secured part of South Thames College in 2020 and subsequently began a significant programme of renovation works. Unfortunately, the initial contractors went into liquidation, resulting in a considerable delay to the project.

KIER, the current contractors, have since taken over the project and are making good progress with the remaining works.

September 2026

Two classrooms on the ground floor are being prepared to accommodate Year 5 and Year 6 pupils.

Coming soon! October 2026 – Half Term

Construction of the first-floor playdeck is progressing well. As part of ensuring the safety and compliance of the site, KIER have had to revisit and rectify some of the work previously completed.

From July to September, health and safety works in preparation for the installation of the playdeck. This has included stripping back previously applied paint and repainting surfaces with fire-retardant paint to meet the required safety standards.

The playdeck is now undergoing its final preparation works ahead of the installation of the equipment.

Take a look below to see what our exciting new playdeck will look like! The first-floor playdeck will provide a fantastic range of recreational and sporting facilities, including a sports pitch, treehouse, large climbing frame, quiet areas, construction zones, performance spaces and much more.

We are very excited to see the playdeck take shape and look forward to our pupils making the most of this fantastic new space! The Friends of APSoL with support from all our families, have contributed with £20,000 (25%) towards the cost of this playdeck - we are super grateful to our community!

 Coming Summer 2027

As soon as the play deck is completed on the first floor, Kier will continue with the building works on 2 floors. The school is a one form entry, therefore ground floor and first floor are sufficient to accommodate the whole school including a nursery class, early years play area (covered and uncovered), SEND and specialist teaching rooms and a multi-purpose hall including dinning. The school office will also host a private meeting room and a medical room.

What will the Early Years/KS1 play area look like?

Multi-surface areas, climbing frame, mud kitchen and a large water area. We will also have a covered area with a sand pit which children can use all year-round.
