PE
Intent
At APSOL, we believe that Physical Education is essential in promoting healthy, active lifestyles and supporting children's physical, social and emotional development. We aim to develop confident, physically literate pupils who enjoy being active and understand the importance of health and wellbeing.
Through a broad and balanced curriculum, we provide opportunities for all children to develop fundamental movement skills, teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship, while fostering a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity and sport.
Implementation
We follow the Striver PE scheme, which provides a progressive curriculum that develops knowledge, skills and physical competence across a wide range of activities and sports. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build on prior learning and ensure children develop confidence and mastery in key physical skills.
PE lessons are delivered by teachers and specialist sports coaches, allowing pupils to benefit from high-quality instruction and expertise. Children participate in a range of activities, including team games, athletics, gymnastics, dance and outdoor activities, developing leadership, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
As part of our commitment to providing a rich PE curriculum, children in Year 2 participate in swimming lessons, developing confidence in the water alongside vital swimming and water safety skills. Children also have opportunities to take part in indoor climbing sessions, helping to build resilience, confidence, coordination and determination through new and challenging experiences.
The school promotes participation and enjoyment through extra-curricular clubs and provides regular opportunities for pupils to represent the school in team competitions, festivals and sporting events. Our annual Sports Day celebrates individual achievement, teamwork and personal bests, encouraging all pupils to experience success and enjoyment in physical activity.
Impact
