Religious Education

Intent

At APSOL, we aim to provide an engaging and inclusive RE and Worldviews curriculum using Kapow, enabling pupils to explore a range of religions, beliefs and worldviews. Through discussion, enquiry and reflection, children develop respect, curiosity and understanding, while considering their own beliefs and those of others. We want pupils to appreciate diversity, challenge stereotypes and develop the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to contribute positively to a diverse society.

Implementation

At APSOL, we use the Kapow RE and Worldviews curriculum across the whole school to provide a clear, progressive and inclusive programme of learning. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build pupils’ knowledge and understanding of a range of religions, beliefs and worldviews, while encouraging enquiry, discussion, reflection and respectful debate. Pupils are given opportunities to explore different perspectives, use appropriate religious vocabulary and make links between beliefs and everyday life. Learning is enriched through stories, artefacts, texts, creative activities and opportunities to reflect on their own ideas and experiences. Teachers adapt lessons to meet the needs of all pupils, ensuring that every child can engage meaningfully with the curriculum.

Impact

Through the our RE and Worldviews curriculum, all pupils develop knowledge and understanding of a range of religions, beliefs and worldviews. They become curious, respectful and open-minded learners who can discuss different perspectives, reflect on their own ideas and appreciate the diversity of the world around them.
